Mother’s Day Ideas to Celebrate Mom with Love Instead of Money
Aren’t moms the greatest? We love our moms every day, but we don’t always take the time to celebrate them. Thank goodness moms will finally get their special day on Sunday. (Mark your calendars, guys, while you are at it mark it for next year too!!) We know that you want to show your mom or wife how special and loved they are on Mother’s Day, so we’ve got some awesome tips to help you celebrate mom!
1. Don’t Go Out To Eat
This might have you scratching your head a little. After all, nobody wants Mom stuck in the kitchen on Mother’s Day, so doesn’t everyone go out to eat? Yes – that’s the problem! Mother’s Day is the busiest day in the restaurant industry, and that means lots of crowds and long wait times. Do you really want mom spending her special day hungry and waiting in a jam-packed restaurant? No way!
Take the stress off of Mom and make her a special dinner at home. You don’t have to be a five-star chef to make a wonderful, meaningful meal. She’ll appreciate the time and effort you put in even if the food is fairly simple. Taylor and the kids have been doing this for me for years, and it is one of my favorite things. Hearing my favorite people in the kitchen, working together to make a delicious meal for me is so incredibly special.
The one rule for Mother’s Day Dinner – MOM CAN’T LIFT A FINGER! You and the kids plan it, prepare it and clean it up while Mom gets some much-needed relaxation. It will be a meaningful and memorable way to show her how much you care.
2. Give Small Surprises
You probably want to give your mom or your wife a gift for Mother’s Day. That’s awesome! You should definitely do that. But don’t let that be the only gift you give her. Fill the day with a series of small surprises that make her feel loved. Put a sticky note on her mirror telling her how much you love her. Maybe leave a note on her steering wheel or car seat. You can even hide a note in the refrigerator, so she’ll feel cherished when she’s grabbing a snack! Get your kids in on the action and make the whole house a treasure hunt of love notes for your beloved.
If your mom lives far away, you can do this with text messages! Send her several throughout the day, sharing memories and letting her know how much you appreciate her and how much she means to you.
3. Focus on Mom’s Primary Money Personality
Remember that awesome gift we were talking about? The one you’re going to get in addition to all those small surprises? Let your mom’s Primary Money Personality guide your gift choice! If your mom hasn’t taken the Money Personality Assessment, you can probably take a good guess at her Primary Money Personality. That will help you choose the perfect gift for her. Here’s a fun little Money Personality gift guide for the moms you love!
If your mom is a Primary:
Saver – Don’t spend a lot of money on a gift. That will just stress her out! Choose something meaningful that doesn’t cost a lot.
Spender – Go big or go home! Buy Mom a lovely, decadent gift that will put a smile on her face.
Risk Taker – Gift Mom an adventure! Try something unexpected and exciting like ziplining!
Security Seeker – Plan a special day and fill her in on the plan! She’ll love knowing exactly what you’re doing during your fun time together.
Flyer – Mom puts relationships above everything, so the greatest gift you can give a Flyer mom is spending time together.
We hope that these tips help you celebrate the amazing moms in your life. Being a mom is one of my life’s greatest blessings and my favorite job! I hope all of you wonderful mothers out there are loved and celebrated on your special day. Happy Mother’s Day!
As always,
Megan Kovar
