What Dishes Taught Me About Love

We love what Jeff Goins is doing in his “Slow Down” challenge.  He is encouraging people to stop, smell the roses, and go deeper into their relationships. We completely agree. And we would like to add our Money Couple two cents:

Stop. Slow down. Think about – don’t just react – to your honey’s Money Personalities.

How easy is it to react to our spocouple-dockuse when they say or do things that drive us nuts?  Just last night we witnessed our Money Personalities popping up in our evening dishwashing routine.

Megan likes to make sure there is plenty of room in the dishwasher so the dishes get extra clean. (Security Seeker)

Taylor, on the other hand, likes to “push the envelope” and stuff as many dishes in the dishwasher as possible. (Risk Taker)

(Funny how Money Personalities affect all areas of our life.)

Anyway, Meg was not too happy when a few last-minute dishes were stuffed in her already running dishwasher.
Her comment: “Seriously?! Come on!”
Taylor’s response. “Oh. Give me a break.”

Notice how far we are from having this all figured out?!

What if Taylor:

  • slowed down, took a deep breath, and thought before he stuffed those dishes in?
  • slowed down, stopped long enough … to not stuff?
  • slowed down and considered what he knew was her perspective?

What if?

Neither of us was trying to be difficult, but it is easy to forget how differently we see things. (Tweet this!)

In our fast-paced, “get it done” society, our relationships can suffer. It helps to remember the impact our urgency can have on our loved ones. In our rush to get the job done, we forgot there is another person in the house, another person to care for, another person to love.

Thank you, Jeff Goins, for your campaign and reminder of what is important. We encourage our readers to sign up for Jeff’s challenge, slow down, and leave us a comment about a recent “too fast” decision that hurt your relationship. Did you see your Money Personalities shining through?

Here’s to working towards love for a lifetime – let’s stop, take a deep breath, and LOVE!!
